EFT Tapping: A Quick Way to Reduce Anxiety

Anxiety can be overwhelming, but there are simple tools you can use to find immediate relief. EFT Tapping, also known as psychological acupressure, is one such tool. It works by tapping on specific meridian points on the body while voicing your feelings.

How Does Tapping Work?

Tapping on these meridian points sends a calming signal to the amygdala, the part of your brain that controls your stress response (fight or flight). This helps to lower cortisol levels and calm the nervous system, even while you are focused on the stressful issue. It helps to release the emotional intensity from the body.

A Simple Tapping Sequence for Anxiety

1. Identify your anxiety level on a scale of 0-10.
2. Start by tapping on the side of your hand (the "karate chop" point) and say, "Even though I have this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself."
3. Then, tap through the sequence of points (eyebrow, side of eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone, under arm) while briefly stating the problem, e.g., "this anxiety."
4. After a few rounds, take a deep breath and check your anxiety level again. It has likely decreased.
