Breaking Free From Negative Patterns

Negative patterns are repeating behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that lead to undesirable outcomes. They are often run by the subconscious mind, based on beliefs formed in early childhood. The first step to breaking them is to become aware of them.

Identifying Your Patterns

Look at the recurring challenges in your life. Is there a common theme? For example, do you always attract emotionally unavailable partners? Do you procrastinate on important projects? Start journaling about these instances without judgment. Look for the common denominator—which is always you. What belief about yourself or the world might be causing this pattern?

The Pattern-Interrupt Technique

Once you are aware of a pattern, you can begin to interrupt it. The moment you catch yourself falling into the old behavior or thought process, do something to break the cycle. This could be physically getting up and moving, saying a powerful affirmation out loud, or using a technique like EFT Tapping. By interrupting the pattern consistently, you weaken its hold on your subconscious mind.
